
Dr Marija M. Polovina, PhD, FESC, FHFA is the Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Belgrade University. She received a PhD degree in cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Belgrade University in 2016. Since 2006, Dr Polovina has been employed at the Department of Cardiology, Clinical Center of Serbia, Belgrade, Serbia. She has an extensive clinical experience and a substantial research background in heart failure, atrial fibrillation, diabetes, and cardiovascular outcomes.
Dr Polovina has been a site investigator for the Eurobservational Research Program (EORP) for Atrial Fibrillation General Long-Term Registry of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) from 2014 to 2017. Since 2018, she has been appointed for the National Coordinator for the EORP Heart Failure-3 Registry of the ESC. In 2019, she has become the member of the Committee for Surveys, Registries and Epidemiology of the Heart Failure Association (HFA) of the ESC.
Dr Polovina has contributed as an author or coauthor in almost 50 scientific papers in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, including the Position Papers of the HFA/ESC on the management of Heart Failure in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus (2018), and the Role and Safety of Novel Glucose Lowering Agents in patients with Heart Failure (2019). She has also coauthored several chapters in cardiovascular textbooks. Dr Polovina is a member of the Serbian Society of Cardiology, Serbian Heart Failure Society, the ESC and the HFA of the ESC. Since 2019, she has been elected the Fellow of the ESC and since 2020, the Fellow of the HFA.
