Management models of the patient with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in the Lazio Region
November 2020
Analysis and optimization of the therapeutic diagnostic pathway
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis ( IPF) is a rare and chronic disease characterized by a progressive decline in lung function, associated with a poor prognosis.
The study "Analysis of models of taking charge and optimization of the path of the patient affected by idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis" analyzed the diagnostic-therapeutic path of patients affected by IPF in the specific context of the Lazio Region with the aim of identifying opportunities for improvement and to support the definition of an optimal patient management model .
Taking charge of patients with suspected IPF is a fundamental step , because it represents the moment in which not only the diagnosis is confirmed, but also the moment in which the patient's initial treatment (pharmacological or non-pharmacological) is defined .
At an organizational level, it emerges that a regional network for the diagnosis and management of the disease already exists. This network sees as its main players not only the centers of reference , but also GPs and pulmonologists .
The project was carried out under the scientific responsibility of the Agostino Gemelli University Hospital Foundation IRCCS and of ALTEMS - High School of Economics and Management of Health Systems Catholic University of the Sacred Heart with the non-conditioning contribution of Boehringer-Ingelheim.
