Guidelines for the primary prevention of stroke
In 2014, the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) updated the 2011 guidelines for the primary prevention of stroke in individuals who have not previously experienced a stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA). The guidelines include recommendations for the control of risk factors, interventional approaches to treatments preventing thrombotic and thromboembolic stroke, information on genetic testing as well as recommendations for the prevention of stroke in specific circumstances, including diabetes.

Guidelines for the prevention of stroke in patients with stroke and transient ischaemic attack
The updated American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) guidelines for the prevention of stroke in patients with stroke and transient ischaemic attack (TIA) provides physicians with evidence-based recommendations for the prevention of future stroke and recurrent brain ischaemia among survivors of ischaemic stroke or TIA. The guidelines include recommendations for the control of risk factors, information on antithrombotic and antiplatelet therapy as well as recommendations for the prevention of recurrent stroke in a variety of specific circumstances.

Established in 2006, the World Stroke Organization (WSO) is recognized as the lead global organisation for stroke by the World Health Organisation. It pursues the mission to reduce the global burden of stroke through prevention, treatment and long-term care. In its fight against stroke, the WSO aims to increase stroke awareness, foster the best standards of practice, provide education, facilitate stroke research and support stroke survivors and their families.
European Stroke Organisation
The European Stroke Organisation (ESO) is a European society of stroke physicians, researchers, national and regional stroke societies and lay organisations taking action to reduce the burden of stroke regionally and globally.
In order to harmonise stroke management across Europe, ESO provides medical education to both healthcare professionals and the lay public, offers best practice approaches, promotes awareness and serves as the voice of stroke in Europe.
