The criteria for a probable UIP pattern are identical to that of UIP with the absence of honeycombing,45 which is necessary to make a diagnosis of UIP. In the coronal image shown here, reticulation is seen in the lower periphery of the lungs, but no honeycombing is present. In the axial image on the right, we see coarse reticulation and traction bronchiectasis and bronchiolectasis within the subpleural aspects of both lower lobes. No honeycombing is present, disallowing a diagnosis of definite UIP. These features are consistent with a pattern of probable usual interstitial pneumonia.
